Things to Note:
*) Meetings are from 7:30 to 9:00pm on Thursday at Glen Mar Church. We encourage parents to sit in for the announcements at the beginning and end of meetings.
*) We always need volunteers. Please send an email to the Committee Chair if you are interested in becoming a merit badge counselor, participate in boards of review, or various other roles. This is a great way to connect with the community and see what happens in Scouting. Click here for more information on all volunteer positions.
*) There is an expectation that Scouts will provide $1 per week for dues.
*) Scouts provide their own clothing and sleeping bags. The Troop provides tents, cooking equipment, rain flys, etc.
*) Permission slips and food money are due the Thursday one week before camping. Camping occurs from Friday ~5pm thru Sunday ~noon. Parents are responsible for driving to/from the camp sites. Carpooling is permitted.
*) As per BSA policy, adults are required to be registered members with BSA prior to camping.
*) Scouts must be registered and medical forms provided prior to camping.

Troop 874 meets every Thursday night year round at Glen Mar UMC.
Troop meeting time is from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM Scouts are asked to arrive 10 minutes early so that the meetings may begin on time.
Troop meetings are normally held in the Spirit Center. However, on occasion Glen Mar will require the use of the Spirit Center for a church function. At those times the Troop will be asked to utilize alternate space(s) on the first floor, or on the outside lawn.
Formal Troop meetings begin the first week of school (late August or early September) and continue up to the week before Summer Camp (mid-July). Informal Troop meetings (attendance and uniforms optional, no ceremony) are held for the remainder of the summer. There will be 6-8 times throughout the year (usually holiday periods) when meetings are canceled.
Parents are encouraged (but not required) to stay for the entire meeting to assist the scouts with advancement requirements and merit badges, or assist with Board’s of Review, planning, and many other Troop activities, or just hang around and get to know your fellow Troop leaders/parents.
Most formal Troop meetings follow a similar format outlined below, but occasionally the meeting format will be altered (whole or in part) to accommodate a special Troop function (eg. Court of Honor, leadership induction, Order of the Arrow, etc.)
Opening (5-10 minutes)
Patrol Meetings (60+ minutes)
Closing (10-15 minutes)
When 874 came to town, all the camp staff tried to drown!
They couldn’t stand our beauty, poise, and rapport, ‘cause we’re the dudes from 874!
On my honor, I will do my best:
To do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
A Scout is:
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave,
Clean, Reverent.
Do a Good Turn Daily!
May the Great Scoutmaster of all true Scouts be with you till we meet again.

You’ve probably heard it said that “3/4 of Scouting is outing !!!”
