Troop 874 Outings

In general, Troop 874 will cover the cost of the campsite, including cabins when appropriate.  On some outings there are 'extra' events planned (in addition to camping) requiring tickets/admission (eg., rafting, caving, skiing, etc.).  These will be paid by the scouts/parents in advance (occasionally the Troop chips in to help offset these costs).

Adults will not be reimbursed for gas if they drive (carpool) for a camping trip.  However, for the very reasonable sum of $20, Troop 874’s excellent Adult Cooking Staff will feed you extremely well for the entire weekend.

You’ve probably heard it said that “3/4 of Scouting is outing !!!”

Each year Troop 874 plans 9 regular monthly camping trips (Jan-Jun, Sep-Nov), plus a week-long summer camp in July, and an overnight outing at a local Sports/Fitness center in early/mid December.  There is no scheduled camping trip or outing for the month of August.

Outings are typically scheduled 3-6 months in advance, and will be announced in the weekly Troop Notes and added to the Troop Calendar.

In most cases, scout permission slips, food money, and adult driver sign-ups are due two Thursdays (=8 days) prior to the starting date of the outing.

Adults who sign up for the camping trips can indicate on the trip permission slip if they are able to transport additional scouts (don’t forget room for their gear!).  The Troop Transportation Coordinator may assign scouts, as needed, to your vehicle.

Most Troop camping trips will depart on Friday from, and return on Sunday to, the large parking lot on the back side of Glen Mar UMC.

Listed below is a brief description of the Troop’s monthly outings over the past 5 years or so.  It is for reference only, and not a guarantee of future outings.
